Keine gute Ausbeute für Grasser Racing auf dem Slovakia Ring

Mit der Veranstaltung auf dem Slovakia Ring (5.922km) ging die Blancpain Sprint Serie am vergangenen Wochenende in die zweite Saisonhälfte. Das Grasser Racing Team aus Österreich konnte mit seinen beiden Reiter Lamborghini Gallardo FL2 bisher in dieser Saison mit sehr guten Leistungen zeigen, dass auch ein kleines aber ambitioniertes Team die Möglichkeit hat, sich in dieser enorm starken Serie im Spitzenfeld zu behaupten. Mit Aussicht, die Führung in der Pro und in der ProAm-Wertung an diesem Wochenende zu übernehmen, ging das Team mit den Piloten Hari Proczyk (AUT)/Jeroen Bleekemolen (NLD) und Sascha Halek (AUT)/Stefan Landmann (AUT) entsprechend positiv motiviert an die Sache.

Die Qualifyings absolvierten die Rennfahrer mit Bravour. Landmann fuhr die schnellste Zeit in der ProAm-Wertung und Bleekemolen setzte den Reiter Lamborghini Gallardo FL2 auf P2 in die erste Startreihe. Das Qualifying-Rennen am Samstag war von Safety-Car-Einsätzen und zwei längeren Rotphasen geprägt, die von der Rennleitung wegen eines schweren Unfalls und wegen hoher Aquaplaninggefahr aufgrund des Starkregens ausgerufen wurden. Während sich die Autos auf der Startgeraden in der ersten Rotphase wieder zum Restart aufstellten, setzten die ersten Regenschauer ein und die Teams nutzten die Zeit, um auf Regenreifen umzurüsten. Trotz chaotischer Verhältnisse, die auch nach den Restarts weiterhin auf der Strecke herrschten, konnten sich Bleekemolen und Proczyk mit hervorragenden Kampfeinsatz bis zum Rennende auf den vorderen Plätzen behaupten und brachten P2 und wichtige Meisterschaftspunkte mit ins Ziel. Sascha Halek und Stefan Landmann überstanden die Wasserschlacht auch unbeschadet, verloren aber durch den späten obligatorischen Fahrerwechsel, der in die zweite Rotphase fiel, viele Platzierungen. Die beiden Piloten hatten unter diesen widrigen Umständen sehr gute Leistungen gezeigt, Landmann dominierte sogar die ProAm-Wertung während der ersten Rennhälfte. Eine bessere Platzierung wäre für das Duo andernfalls mit Sicherheit möglich gewesen.

Beim Hauptrennen am Sonntag waren die Wetterbedingungen um einiges besser. Zwar war es sehr windig, aber es waren keine Regenschauer vorausgesagt. Proczyk ging von P2 aus ins Rennen und konnte sich bis in die erste enge Rechtskurve noch gut positionieren, als sein Gallardo von der Seite aus angefahren wurde und Proczyk mit einigen anderen Fahrzeugen im Kiesbett landete. Mit einem Totalschaden am Wagen konnte er das Rennen nicht fortsetzen. Auch der Wagen von Sascha Halek wurde bei diesem Startunfall von einem Wagen berührt, der nach einigen Runden zu einem Reifenschaden vorne links führte und zu einem vorzeitigen Boxenstopp zwang, um den Reifen zu wechseln. Halek fuhr danach seinen Stint zu Ende und übergab den Gallardo an Stefan Landmann, der aus der Situation noch versuchte, das Beste zu machen. Er pushte bis zum Ende und konnte den Lamborghini auf Platz 2 in der ProAm-Wertung in das Ziel bringen.

Hari Proczyk: „Am Wochenende hat eigentlich alles ganz gut funktioniert, P2 im Qualifying war gut und mit P2 im Regenrennen sind wir sehr zufrieden. Es war eine super Ausgangsposition für den Start beim Hauptrennen heute. Was dann aber nach dem Start genau passiert ist, kann ich nicht sagen. Fakt ist, dass ich vorne war als sich hinten scheinbar einer oder mehre vertan und eine Kollision verursacht und für mich das Rennen beendet haben. In zwei Wochen werden wir in Portimao angreifen und wollen die Rennen gewinnen.“

Jeroen Bleekemolen: „Das Qualifying war sehr gut, fast hätten wir die Pole geholt, aber wir hatten etwas Pech mit einem ABS-Fehler am Auto. Im ersten Rennen war sehr viel los aber am Ende waren wir froh, dass wir P2 erreicht haben. Es hätte auch einiges passieren können. Schade, dass wir dann im zweiten Rennen abgeschossen wurden, wir waren bisher so gut in der Meisterschaft dabei und der Ausfall kostet uns richtig viel. Für das Rennen in Portimao rechne ich mir gute Chancen aus, wir sind bisher überall sehr schnell gewesen und werden dort auch wieder versuchen, vorne dabei zu sein.“

Sascha Halek: „Das Rennen am Samstag war durch die vielen Unterbrechungen sehr in die Länge gezogen und durch den falsch getimten Boxenstopp sind wir nach hinten gefallen. Stefan war ganz gut positioniert, aber durch die Rotphase konnten wir den Boxenstopp erst als letztes Team durchführen, waren dann ganz hinten und sind das Rennen eigentlich nur noch zu Ende gefahren. Heute beim Start hatte ich vorne links eine Berührung mit einem anderen Fahrzeug und musste zum Reifenwechsel an die Box. Damit war das Rennen schon gelaufen. Ich denke, dass auch noch etwas anderes kaputtgegangen ist, weil das Auto nach der Berührung sehr unruhig war. Wir hatten nicht wirklich ein optimales Wochenende, aber wir schauen jetzt schon wieder positiv auf die nächste Veranstaltung in Portimao in zwei Wochen.“

Stefan Landmann: „Das Wochenende war sehr durchwachsen. Für das Qualifying hatten wir nicht die optimale Abstimmung gefunden, sonst hätten wir uns hier bestimmt besser platziert. Im Regenrennen lief es eigentlich ganz gut, bis zum Boxenstopp, dessen Strategie nicht so ganz glücklich angelegt war, danach konnten wir das Rennen vergessen. Im zweiten Rennen hatten wir auch keine Chance, da Sascha (Halek) beim Start einen Reifenschaden erlitt, der zum Boxenstopp zwang und uns nach hinten brachte. Ich hatte dann keine Möglichkeit mehr, das Auto nach vorne zu bringen. Für das nächste Rennen in Portimao habe ich mit dem Lamborghini keine Erfahrung und keine Referenzwerte, aber ich freue mich schon auf die wunderschöne Strecke dort und werde wieder alles geben, um das Auto nach vorne zu bringen.

Teamchef Gottfried Grasser: „Das Wochenende war bis zum heutigen Renntag OK und wir waren mit den Leistungen unserer vier Piloten sehr zufrieden. Leider wurden die Autos von Hari (Procyzk) und Sascha (Halek) heute abgeschossen und wir konnten damit keine wichtigen Punkte sammeln, das tut natürlich sehr weh, da es in beiden Fällen um die Meisterschaft geht.  Jetzt heißt es für das nächste Rennen in Portimao: Voller Angriff, wir wollen gewinnen und Punkte holen.“

Das nächste Rennen findet vom 5. – 7. September 2014 in Portimao (POR) statt.

Poor result for Grasser Racing at Slovakia Ring

·         Good start positions after the qualifying

·         Two red flag phases due to a crash and heavy downpour

·         Both cars got caught up in the collision at the start of the second race

The Blancpain Sprint Series kicked off the second part of the season at Slovakia Ring (5.922km) last weekend. Fielding two Reiter Lamborghini Gallardo FL2, the Grasser Racing Team from Austria had put in a fantastic performance at the previous rounds of this season, proving that a small and ambitious team is very well able to keep up with the top in this strong series. The team and the drivers, Hari Proczyk (AUT)/Jeroen Bleekemolen (NLD) and Sascha Halek (AUT)/Stefan Landmann (AUT), were highly motivated for the event at the weekend, considering their good chance of taking the lead in both the Pro and the Pro-Am category.

The race drivers achieved phenomenal results in the qualifying session. Landmann clocked the fastest lap in the Pro-Am category; Bleekemolen grabbed P2 in the first row for the Reiter Lamborghini Gallardo FL2.

The qualifying race on Saturday saw several safety car deployments as well as two long red flag phases due to a bad crash and a high risk of aquaplaning in the heavy downpour.

Rain started to fall while the cars were lining up for the restart on the start straight during the first red flag phase. Therefore, the teams used the time to switch to wet tyres.

Even though the chaotic conditions continued after the restarts, Bleekemolen and Proczyk put in a phenomenal performance defending their positions at the front end of the field. They finished in P2, scoring valuable championship points.

Sascha Halek and Stefan Landmann made it through the battle in the rain unscathed. However, they dropped down the order due to the late mandatory pit stop during the second red flag phase. Both drivers delivered a great performance despite the challenging conditions. Landmann was actually leading the Pro-Am category in the first half of the race. The pairing would surely have achieved a better result in other circumstances.

The weather conditions had improved considerably in time for the second race on Sunday. Even though the wind was quite strong no rain was forecast.

Proczyk started into the race from P2. Driving into the first narrow right-hand turn, he was in a good position when his Gallardo was hit on the side. As a result, Proczyk and a few other vehicles went off into the gravel. Since his car was completely damaged he was not able to continue the race.

Sascha Halek's vehicle was also touched by another car during this crash at the start. As this incident led to a puncture of the left front tyre a few laps later, he was forced to pit early for a tyre change. Halek finished his stint. Stefan Landmann took over the Gallardo and tried to make the best of the situation. He pushed hard until the end, finishing in second place in the Pro-Am category.

Hari Proczyk: “Basically, everything worked out well at the weekend. P2 in the qualifying was good, and we are really pleased with P2 in the wet race. It was a great basis for the start in the main race today. I am not sure, what happened after the start. I know for a fact that I was at the top and some driver or drivers made a mistake and caused a crash, ending my race.

We will attack again at Portimao in two weeks time, and we want to win the races.”

Jeroen Bleekemolen: “The qualifying went really well. We narrowly missed out on pole position. However, we had some bad luck with an ABS failure in the car. There was a lot going on in the first race. Anyway, we are really pleased about finishing in P2. A lot could have happened.

Too bad, that we were kicked off in the second race. We were doing really well in the championship, and this early retirement costs us a lot.

I am sure that we have a good chance at Portimao. We have been very fast everywhere so far and we will try to be at the top again.”

Sascha Halek: “The race on Saturday was considerably longer due to the many interruptions. We dropped down the order because of our wrong timing for the pit stop. Stefan had a good position. However, we were forced to come in last for the pit stop due to the red flags. We rejoined the race at the back of the field and basically just finished the race.

I was touched on the left front side at the start today and had to pit for a tyre change. Our race was basically over after that. I think something else was damaged too because the car did not run smoothly anymore after the touch.

We did not have a perfect weekend. However, we are looking forward now and will keep a positive attitude for the next round at Portimao in two weeks time.”

Stefan Landmann: “The weekend had its ups and downs. We did not have a perfect set-up for the qualifying session. Otherwise we surely would have claimed a better position. The wet race went quite well up until the pit stop. The strategy did now work out and after that the race was pretty much over for us.

We did not have a chance in the second race either, since the tyre was punctured at the start. Sascha (Halek) was forced to pit and we dropped down the order. I did not have a chance afterwards to push forward in the car.

I have no experience in the Lamborghini and no previous reference values for the next race at Portimao. However, I am looking forward to the beautiful track, and I will definitely do my best again to claim a top position for the car.”

Team Principal Gottfried Grasser: “The weekend has been alright up until today, and we were really pleased with the performance of our drivers. Unfortunately, the cars with Hari (Procyzk) and Sascha (Halek) respectively at the wheel were kicked off today, and we were not able to score valuable points. That's really disappointing, since we are in for the championship title with both pairings.

At the next round at Portimao it will be an all-out offensive. We aim to win and score points.”
